Faith-Filled Self-Care Before the Holiday Rush
The holidays are coming, and for many of us, that means longer to-do lists, more commitments, and less breathing room. But what if this year could feel different? What if instead of being swept into the rush, we chose to prepare our hearts with stillness and peace? This post is your invitation to embrace faith-filled self-care before the holiday season even begins.
✨ Why Faith-Filled Self-Care Matters
Self-care isn’t selfish, and it isn’t just about bubble baths and candles (though those can be relaxing). For a Christian woman, self-care is about slowing down, being still with God, and creating space for Him to speak. When we nurture our minds, bodies, and spirits with intention, we’re better equipped to serve our families, love others well, and walk through the holiday season with peace instead of panic.
God designed rest for our good. Exodus 20:8-10 reminds us that Sabbath rest is not optional, it’s a command. And Jesus Himself invites us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Choosing to slow down honors Him.
🌿 My Favorite Ways to Slow Down
For me, slowing down is deeply personal. I often like taking long walks outside and breathing in the quiet and praying. Some nights, I’ll soak in a warm bath with my favorite worship music or a sermon playing softly in the background. These little rhythms calm my mind and remind me to be still before God. Your version of slowing down might look different and that’s okay. The goal is to create space for Him.
🧺 Less Is Better: Creating Space for Peace
One of the most powerful ways to prepare for the holidays is by reducing the noise in your life. This might mean:

Saying no to extra commitments that drain your energy like an optional party or activity that you don’t truly enjoy.
Clearing out physical clutter that creates mental clutter, donating toys, extra décor, or unused kitchen items.
Simplifying your routines so you have space to pray, reflect, and rest like planning one quiet night each week as a family.
Less isn’t just practical, it’s spiritual. When we make room in our schedule, we make room for God. Psalm 46:10 reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Stillness requires space, and space requires intention.
⏳ Self-Care as Stewardship
Your time, energy, and attention are gifts from God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that we are temples of the Holy Spirit what we do with our bodies and our time matters. When you practice faith-filled self-care, you are not just pampering yourself, you are stewarding your life well. That means showing up rested, prayerful, and present for what truly matters, God, family, and the moments that can so easily slip by.
🪴 Calming Tip of the Day

Before the holiday season kicks into gear, take one evening to sit quietly with a journal. Write down three things you want less of this season (stress, overcommitment, rushing) and three things you want more of (peace, prayer, joy). Use this as your guide when deciding what to say yes or no to in the coming weeks.

💛 Final Encouragement
You don’t have to wait for January 1st to reset. You can choose right now to prepare your heart for a season of peace. Give yourself permission to slow down, reduce the noise, and sit with God. This holiday can be different not because you did more, but because you created space for what matters most.
🙏 Prayer to Slow Down
"Lord, I give You my schedule, my energy, and my heart. Help me release what I don’t need and hold on to what truly matters. Teach me to be still in Your presence, to rest in Your love, and to walk into this holiday season with peace and joy. In Jesus Name, Amen."
